An on-location business branding experience with the Gutter Man
Businesses don't just sell a service—they build trust. When someone hires a company to work on their home or their place of business, they're inviting strangers into one of their biggest investments. Before they ever pick up the phone, they're looking for signs that the people behind the business are experienced, approachable, and take pride in what they do. That's exactly what great branding photography is designed to communicate.
I recently had the pleasure of spending the day photographing The Gutter Man, a gutter company serving both Nanaimo and Squamish, specializing in full gutter replacements, repairs, maintenance, and moss removal. They booked my on-location experience, which is a full-day session tailored for businesses that want more than just a handful of headshots.
Instead of rushing through a quick photo session, we spent the day documenting the business as it naturally unfolded. This allowed us to create a complete visual story that reflects not only what they do, but how they do it.
Throughout the day, we photographed:
Professional employee portraits
Lifestyle branding images for their website
Candid moments of the team at work
Natural details that help tell the story of the business
Before and after images of a completed project
Branded vehicle and environmental photographs
The result is a cohesive collection of imagery that feels authentic, professional, and ready to be used across their website, social media, advertising, and future marketing materials.
One of the highlights of the day was documenting the project they were working on at the Crow & Gate Pub in Cedar, one of Vancouver Island's most recognizable English-style pubs.
Instead of staging photos, I photographed the crew working through an actual job, allowing us to capture genuine moments that showcase their experience and attention to detail. Alongside the branding imagery, we also photographed the transformation with before-and-after images that visually demonstrate the quality of their work.
There's something incredibly valuable about showing potential customers real projects rather than relying solely on stock imagery or staged marketing photos. It gives people confidence in the work they're investing in.
One of the biggest advantages of my on-location experience is that it gives businesses the time and space to create a unified image library instead of trying to fit everything into a short session. A full day allows us to move naturally between portraits, behind-the-scenes moments, environmental details, and the real work happening on site.
Those varied images become incredibly versatile, helping businesses maintain a consistent presence across every corner of their brand. Instead of wondering what to post next or scrambling for website photos months down the road, clients walk away with an elevated collection of visuals that grows alongside their business.
At the root of it, branding photography isn't about looking perfect. It's about showing the people behind the business, the quality that goes into the work, and the experience customers can expect from the moment they reach out.
Whether it's a clean portrait of the owner, a candid conversation between crew members, branded vehicles arriving on site, or the final result of a completed project, every image helps tell the story of a company that values quality and professionalism. That's the kind of visual storytelling that builds trust long before a customer makes contact.
Whether you're a trades business, creative entrepreneur, or growing company, my on-location experience is designed to create a curated library of images that work as hard as you do. Together, we'll capture authentic portraits, real moments, meaningful details, and the work you're proud of. Because the best branding photos don't just show what you do—they show why people should choose you.
